I bet you didn't expect another blog post today. But after hearing the news earlier I just couldn't wait to tell you all. This year I have been shortlisted for The Qube Open Arts Exhibition. Two of my pieces will go up in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition, before being judged by an independent panel and visitors to the gallery. I've had work in one of these exhibitions before and was so amazed at the quality and range of work on display. I can't wait. So you wonder.... what work is going up in the gallery? I have been working on the theme 'migration' looking at the battle to get to safety and freedom by many refugees. I will give you photos and a brief explanation for now, but soon I will give you a full artist statement. The first piece is a life jacket which has been embroidered with many of the names of refugees which have died on their travels to a safer country. I wanted to make a statement and a place where these people weather old, young or babies can be remembered. It was sad to find some only hours old having died upon this journey. Even harder maybe was the difficulty in finding the names of those who have died, so instead I have sewn the dates and the horrendous number or missing or dead.
The second piece is thinking about freedom and using embroidered butterflies to symbolize this. Resting on the fragile threads with powerful words written on them in pure white. 'Hope' 'Freedom' 'Safe'
Hi Everyone!! I hope you are all enjoying your summer holidays (even if it is raining, boooo!) So I have just got some new stock into The Qube Gallery, which was mega exciting, for me anyways. So with my new stock in, unfortunately I have to say goodbye to my old. I am having a mega sale on all my jewellery pieces and scarfs in my Etsy shop to make room in my studio for my new range. The stock is limited, as it is all premade stock. So have a look and remember it's never too early to shop for Christmas ;-) hehe
My etsy shop can be found on: www.etsy.com/uk/shop/LouiseSwanton
Have a fab day everyone :-)
Good Afternoon Everyone,
So today I have made my drop off to the Qube Gallery in Oswestry. So exciting to show off my new stock and get them shown in such an awesome gallery. Below are some photos (bad lighting I know) of the tea towels and frame stock that went into the gallery. Look at my past posts to see the embroidered butterflies, card designs and pearl jewellery. So if you are looking for a gift go to The Qube or email me on Louiseswanton@hotmail.co.uk These will soon be for sale on Etsy (Don't worry I'll blog you when my store is all set up again). Have a great weekend!
If you follow me on Instagram then you will know I absolutely love my food. I have been a vegetarian for 14 years, though unfortunately I was not a healthy one for most of this time. After turning round my life four years ago and loosing five and a half stone I have become a healthier, happier and more confident person. After loosing the weight I felt stressed to try to keep it down, and panicked easy about anything I ate at points. In all honesty I may have gone a bit too far at a time. But now I am learning how to create a healthy lifestyle for myself which can make my body feel strong and slim; Not thin. I am getting help with the physio trying to fix some seriously shoulder problems where I can't work my muscles in my pecs properly, and have injured some of the inside of my shoulder. I am finally getting the help from my doctors with my back problems.I have managed to keep my suspected sciatica at bay for the past four years by loosing weight and keeping an active lifestyle, but it does cause a lot of pain at times. I am hoping with this help I will not have to be scared of a lot of exercise anymore and find it easier to make myself strong and lean. Currently I go spinning, walking, horse riding, swimming and aqua. But I would love to get back in to some boxing again.
So this post is just about how I have tried to turn everything around, making sure I am thinking about nutrition and good fats instead of being scared of any fats at all. It is about my home cooked made food and a bit of my story. I am hoping food will now become another focal point of my blog, as I love to share anything creative (And food has to be creative, right?) Hope you are all enjoy your summer!
Morning everyone! I hope you are all enjoying this warm and beautiful day. Today I have been busy sewing, starting to update my website (I got bored of the dark background for now) and getting photographs of these butterfly brooches I have made up for The Qube Gallery, Oswestry. I am getting ready to drop everything off (just waiting for a few things to arrive), but if you want anything or a commission you are welcome to contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org.
I hope you like the butterflies, all designed and made by me using a free hand embroidery technique, which means each butterfly is unique!
My Instagram is down, so for now catch me here or on my facebook page: www.facebook.com/LouiseSwantonTextiles/
Remember to comment or give me a like, it makes me smile ;-)
Good morning everyone! It's been a long time since I wrote on here, so I will make sure to catch you up with a few posts this week (or today). As many of you know I have a stock of my smaller work to purchase at The Qube Gallery in Oswestry. I love to sell my work in The Qube as it has such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and a real mixture of larger artwork and smaller items. These past few weeks I have been working hard on a new selection of work to go for sale in the gallery, with a real mixture of textiles, drawings and patterns based on some of my current artwork. Below are some pictures of some of the new work which will be heading to the gallery this week. I have a number of cards with my original drawings as well as freshwater pearl jewellery and tea towels and textile based necklaces to come soon.
Unfortunately I need to find my camera charger so all pictures are on my phone, but make sure to get in touch if you would like anymore information on email@example.com
I will update you soon with pictures of tea towels and textile necklaces before I drop them off.
Hope you are all enjoying your summer!
